Community Coalitions

The Premise of this proposal is to select, refine, and test network interventions (NIs) aimed at increasing the adoption of evidence-based strategies (EBS) among childhood obesity prevention coalitions serving communities with socioeconomic disadvantage. To guide initial selection of NIs in Aim #1, I proposed to collaboratively develop a new simulation model to study the influence of coalition members’ relationships on theorized precursors to EBS adoption. In Aim #2, I proposed to further develop the simulation model, adding variables specific to EBS adoption, to iteratively refine NIs and test which ones lead to an increase in EBS adoption using a cluster randomized controlled trial. My goal is to (1) produce a simulation model disseminated to coalition leaders, public health practitioners, and to researchers to develop and test novel NIs under different scenarios; and (2) better understand coalitions’ ability to translate research into actions that support child health in communities with disadvantage.
